Chesil Beach

Chesil is the Saxon word for shingle. Freshwater's own stretch of this beach is one of the nicest, with the river Bride running into the sea.

Chesil Beach runs for eighteen miles from Portland to West Bay. It is one of the longest beaches in Europe and is 200 yards wide at its widest point. On a clear day the whole length of the beach can be viewed from Portland.

Whether you choose to relax on the beach, go for a walk or shopping in our nearby market towns, Freshwater could be the ideal base for your holiday.
